Wills Week for HospiceCare in Berwick

During national Hospice UK Dying Matters Week from 4th to 10th May we are delighted to be supported by local solicitors, Sanderson McCreath & Edney of Berwick. They are again opening their doors to support HospiceCare North Northumberland with a Will Writing Week in May 2026. 

They are very generously donating their time and will writing services for people wishing to make a will and donating their fees to HospiceCare North Northumberland.

 

The fee is £280 for a single will and £475 for a pair of wills.

Hospice Care Is More Than You Think...
 

Each year, community nursing teams and volunteers make 1.4 million visits to help people at the end of their lives live well in the community, delivering care closer to home, keeping people out of hospital who do not need to be there – and letting many people be where they want to be, in the place they love most: their own home.

 

In 2024-25 generalist palliative care nurses, healthcare assistants, social workers and carers from hospices made 780,00 home visits. And specialist palliative care doctors and nurses from hospices made 620,000 home visits*.
 

These services could – and should – be growing and expanding to meet the rising demand of our ageing population. But in actual fact, they are shrinking. Many hospices are on the brink, with surging costs leading to many services being cut back.

Since 1995, HCNN has been the only provider of palliative and end of life care in North Northumberland, enabling patients to be cared for in their own homes. In the past year alone, and with staff travelling more than 100,000 miles to reach some of the most rural communities, the team delivered over 100,000 hours of nursing care, supported 80 families through Dementia cafes, and provided bereavement support to 117 people.
 

This service is free at the point of need but costs £1.3 million to run and we rely on the amazing generosity of local businesses, Trusts, Legacies and local residents to support the continuation of our service during the next 30 years and forever.
