Business Presentation

Volunteering is a mutually beneficial arrangement, but it is not intended to give rise to contractual obligations on the part of either HospiceCare or the volunteer

What our volunteers say...

Janey  -  “I use it as motivation to get out of the house, otherwise I probably wouldn’t do so. I love going into the shop – for camaraderie, meeting lots of different people, and enthusiastically throwing myself into all the different tasks.”

Ann - “Meeting lots of different people, keeping busy, contributing to something worthwhile, giving back to the community.”

Julie (currently an active paramedic - “I find it very relaxing and a complete contrast to my (stressful) job.  Helps me to unwind.  As with the others, I enjoy the team spirit in the shop amongst staff and volunteers, and the positive rapport with the public. It is a fantastic place/cause to be part of.”

Volunteering Vacancies

Office Receptionist

Reception Volunteers

Our reception volunteers are the first point of contact for visitors to the building. They ensure the reception area is tidy and welcoming. In addition, they answer our main switchboard telephone and direct calls or take messages as necessary. They receive deliveries and mail and ensure they are directed to the appropriate member of staff. Ideally, our volunteers have IT skills and can assist with admin duties such as typing letters, and are able to send and receive emails. They also assist with making tea and coffee for visitors and cleaning the kitchen afterward.

Team Meeting

Administration Volunteers

Our administration volunteers help us with a variety of tasks. They can help with letters, writing thank you cards, filling envelopes, photocopying, guillotining, or laminating. In addition, they can also assist with counting and receipting any monies received into the building from cash collection buckets or donations.

LEWIS DENNY IMAGE.jpg

Meet Lewis Denny
HospiceCare Ambassador

HospiceCare is a charity close to Lewis’ heart and proud to be an ambassador for the charity since 2013. Lewis is a singer, actor & pantomime star from Alnwick, who performs worldwide, but always has HospiceCare as his chosen charity when he or his comedic alter-ego Karen The Mam performs in the area. In 2019, a brilliant amount of money for HospiceCare has raised over 3 local dates, for his sell-out stage show 'Karen the Mam'. More recently and in support of our Coronavirus Appeal, Lewis hosted HospiceCare's first Virtual quiz which raised nearly £700.

What our volunteers say...

"It is a worthwhile and rewarding thing to do and raises money for the Hospice." Monika

"Very worthwhile and satisfying place to volunteer at a great local charity doing wonderful work." Carolyn

"A great shop with lovely people to work with keeps my brain functioning and I feel I’m giving something back to a great charity that is local." Jackie.
