Family Bereavement Support

Family Support Service

Delivered by our Family Support Coordinator to support the person who is over the age of 18 living with a palliative diagnosis and their families in their own homes, or in our Hospice buildings. Our Coordinator is able to, if appropriate, introduce/refer the family to our Hospice at Home service.

        Bereavement Support Service

Our bereavement support is delivered by trained volunteers led by our Family Support Coordinator. We offer an initial assessment to explore how we can help you. For some, the one-off assessment session may be enough. For others, it may be helpful to meet again, and we will discuss this with you during the assessment. Our bereavement support is delivered in both one-to-one and Bereavement Drop-in Café sessions at our Wellbeing centres in Alnwick and Berwick. This service can be accessed at any time – no matter what the stage of bereavement. No previous contact with the Hospice is necessary. Please note, we do not provide medical advice, family therapy, psychotherapy, or social work services.

Eligibility: This free and confidential service is available to adults 18 years and over registered with a GP in our catchment area,

Referral: You can self-refer by calling our nursing team on T. 01665 606515 or T. 01289 309997, or ask your GP or another health professional to refer you.

BERWICK Drop-in Cafe is held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month 10.00am -11.30am

Our Drop-in Bereavement Cafés are held at our Wellbeing Centres at Alnwick & Berwick.  It doesn’t matter if you have not had any previous contact with the Hospice, everyone is welcome to attend whether the bereavement is recent or a while ago. The aim is to give people a place to meet and connect with others who have had similar experiences in losing a loved one. The event is a safe place to speak openly to others about shared experiences, all the while enjoying a cuppa in a relaxed and informal environment.

There will also be an opportunity to speak confidentially with HospiceCare’s Family Support Coordinator, Maxine. Our support is delivered free of charge and you don't need to make an appointment - just drop in! This service is available to adults 18 years and over. If you're feeling a little apprehensive about dropping in or would like more information, please call our nursing team at T. 01665 606515 or T. 01289  309997 or email careteam@hospicecare-nn.org.uk. If you prefer to contact us via email please include your telephone number so we can call you back - thank you

Our Drop-in Cafes are available to adults 18 years and over.

"I’m impressed with the café and to have the ability to come in and either stay silent or join in the conversations – which are not just about bereavement.  I’ve found it very helpful to talk to people in the same boat – I will be back. " Michael.

How we help...

We invite you to watch our short film featuring Eileen who shares the impact of having HospiceCare's support that enabled her son to die at home - which was his wish.
