Caring for Life!

Angela's Story

Angela was diagnosed 5 years ago with Breast Cancer aged just 37. Despite all the challenges her cancer presented, Angela never stopped ‘waving the flag’ for HospiceCare and became one of our most prolific fundraisers. Angela said on more than one occasion , that if she could use her cancer to get people’s attention to raise as much money as she could, then that’s what she would do – right up until her death, she was planning ways of raising more funds for HospiceCare.

Remember life is a gift, not a right

Angela Matthewson Sept 2014

Only two weeks before she died, she took part in the Great North Run, with the support of her friends, family and Wilbur the Wheelchair . Team Matthewson crossed the line in 3hrs and 53 minutes and have so far raised over £2,000. Angela said of HospiceCare “they cannot change your journey, but they can hold your hand and support you through the dark times and help you live with your diagnosis.”

Sadly Angela died on 21st September 2014, she was just 42 years old. So, to carry on the fantastic work that Angela started , we have picked up the baton and have set up the Angela Matthewson Legacy Fund - in Angela’s words “please donate to this fab local charity - I would have given up a long time ago without their support.” To donate and leave a personal message visit: www.justgiving.com/RememberingAngela
